How to Get in the Holiday Spirit

How to Get in the Holiday Spirit

Feeling in the festive spirit yet? It’s never too early to get excited about the holiday season, and we have some great tips that’ll help you get prepped for the most wonderful time of the year.

Get your skates on

Sure, gliding gracefully around a frozen lake might be the ideal winter wonderland scenario, but since that could get a little tricky to arrange we’ve found the next best thing. The Inner Harbor Ice Rink right on the Baltimore Waterfront opens up on November 1 and offers a whole host of fun for everyone. Glide around the rink enjoying picturesque views of the historic USS Constellation sailing ship and the beautiful harbor beyond. Then, when you’re ready to warm up, head next door to the Penguin Pad, a newly opened chill-out space where you can relax on the comfy Adirondack chairs, or go upstairs to Tír na nÓg Irish Bar for hot food and drink that’ll be sure to banish the winter chills.

Visit a Christmas market

Head to Baltimore’s very own German-style Christmas market for a festive experience that’ll really get you in the holiday mood. Christmas Village in Baltimore offers more than just shopping – as well as browsing the selection of festive gifts and crafts on offer from 50 plus vendors, the village will have a special opening ceremony on November 28, featuring the original Christkind from Nuremburg, Germany. There’ll also be plenty of music, entertainment, and chances to meet Santa up until the market closes for the season on Christmas Eve.

See a show

There are tons of shows on offer to really get you and the family in the holiday spirit – take your pick from festive classics, like A Christmas Carol, showing at the Majestic Theater from Dec 20 – 22, or Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker, Dec 13 – 14. Or get together with friends for a riotous evening of festive fun and frolics at A Drag Queen Christmas, featuring the stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race, at the Modell Performing Arts Center on Nov 22.

Check out the holiday lights

You can’t go wrong with a stroll around your neighborhood to take a look at the sparkling holiday light displays. Gather family and friends and make an event of it by dressing up in holiday gear, bringing hot cocoa to warm you as you walk, and a few festive snacks to set you on your way. Alternatively, head down to Hampden to experience the annual “Miracle on 34th Street” holiday lights, set up by local residents and featuring candy canes, musical trains, and awe-inspiring displays that light up the whole block.
